Sporting KC develops identity with Hoops 4.0 kit

In the realm of sports, there are some iconic uniforms.

In baseball, the Yankees have their signature pinstripes. In football, the Raiders have silver and black and Notre Dame has the gold helmets. In basketball, the Celtics have green and the Lakers have gold.

Soccer has even more deeply-rooted identities. Croatia has dawned their easily distinguishable red and white checkered kits since the 1990s while Celtic have worn their famous hoops for more than a century. There are also basic looks such as Brazil in their traditional canary yellow top and blue shorts as well as Holland dressing in orange.

Sporting Kansas City believes they have developed its own unique identity in MLS with hopes that this identity will be recognizable worldwide.

Sporting KC has solidified its identity going forward with the release of its new primary kit for 2023-24. With the introduction of Hoops 4.0, Sporting has further developed a brand that they hope can routinely produce the most recognizable and iconic of kits in MLS.

The Adidas-produced kit features a modern evolution of Sporting KC’s traditional Sporting Blue and Dark Indigo forming hoops around the front of the jersey.

In the 10-year anniversary of winning the 2013 MLS Cup, this kit commemorates a special year for the club.

“This is a tradition that began in 2014. The inaugural hoops kit was the first place we saw our gold star for the 2013 championship,” said Chad Reynolds, Sporting KC Senior Director of Brand. “Almost a decade later now, the hoops kit has become an iconic part of our brand. When you see the Sporting Blue and Dark Indigo hoops, you know it’s Sporting Kansas City. It’s who we are.”

The hoops are plastered with thick Sporting Blue hoops separated by smaller Indigo Blue hoops. Indigo Blue also makes up the Adidas signature three stripes over the shoulders and trimming on the sleeves, collar, along the sides and bottom of the backside.

The jersey is completed with the words “Paint the Wall” standing in front of a barely legible “2013” as Sporting push to expand their trophy cabinet.

The kit, alongside other top-quality Sporting gear, can be purchased at soccer.com.
