Satchel Paige

One of the greatest pitchers baseball has ever seen, Satchel Paige was one-of-a-kind. The 6-foot-3 right-hander had tremendous control of his fastball throughout his career that spanned from 1927 to 1965, winning the 1942 World Series with the Monarchs.

Len Dawson

The first era of Kansas City Chiefs football included quarterback Len Dawson, who played in KC from 1963 to 1975. The Purdue Boilermaker would become an iconic figure in KC, leading the Chiefs to the Super Bowl IV title and having his No. 16 retired by the Chiefs.

Nate “Tiny” Archibald

Leading the Kings from 1972 to 1976 was Nate “Tiny” Archibald at point guard. The Hall of Famer was one of the top players in the NBA during the ‘70s. He averaged a league-leading 34 points and 11.4 assists per game in 1973, becoming the first player to lead the NBA in points and assists in the same season.

George Brett

If there were a Mount Rushmore of Kansas City sports, George Brett would be on it. The greatest Royal ever was drafted 29th overall in 1971. Brett led the Royals to the 1985 World Series title and won three Silver Sluggers and American League batting titles before having his No. 5 retired by the Royals and being inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Goran Hunjak

“Scorin” Goran Hunjak is among KC’s
greatest indoor soccer players ever, contending with “Wild” Wes Wade and others. In seven seasons, Hunjak had 235 goals, 188 assists and 222 games. He was an NPSL champion with the Attack in 1997.

Spending nine seasons with the Wizards, the left-footed attacker became one of the all-time greats in MLS and was a member of the squad that won the 2000 MLS Cup. Preki won MLS MVP in 1997 and 2003, making him the oldest to win the award at 42 years old and the only player to win the award twice.

Leo Gibson

Leo the Legend has become one of the greats of the modern era of indoor soccer. Gibson was a member of the 2014 MISL championship team and won the 2015 MASL MVP. The 5-foot-6 forward has the most goals in KC indoor soccer history, passing Wes Wade in 2022 with 281 goals.

Sebastien Thinel

The only Kansas City Maverick with his number retired, The 2013 CHL MVP winner was immense on the ice. The winger is the franchise leader in points, recording 378 points in 294 games. He also served the Mavs as captain for four years.

Lauren Holiday

The former FC Kansas City captain won back-to-back NWSL championships with FCKC and a World Cup with the U.S. before her 2015 retirement. She also won the 2013 Golden Boot and NWSL MVP.

Patrick Mahomes

A uniquely innovative talent, Patrick Mahomes has taken the NFL by storm. Mahomes was the first Chief to win MVP and led the franchise to the Super Bowl LIV title. Mahomes is still in the early days of his already legendary career.
